Clarence Mountain Bike Park - XC Loop Corridor Consultation

Consultation has concluded

Project Overview

A preliminary plan has been developed to improve the trail network along the Tasman Highway corridor in consultation with members of the Clarence Mountain Bike Committee, which includes representatives from the Meehan Range Trail Groomers and Dirt Devils.

The plan and proposed upgrades are being shared with the community for feedback.

Background

To create a more cohesive loop trail that provides IMBA blue and IMBA green ride lines and a continuous circuit that starts and ends at the railway abutment. It is proposed to link to Smooth as Butter Track for a continuous ride back to the carpark.

The XC loop was one of the original trails constructed in the Clarence MTB Park and forms the spine of tracks parallel to the Tasman Hwy. Over time it has been extended further towards Belbins Road and additional parallel tracks added, creating a mixture of blue and green lines. A fire trail is utilised to complete the loop back to the railway abutment.

Although it is desirable that the XC Loop is an IMBA green trail due to its accessible location in the lower sections of the Meehan Range, it doesn’t provide a complete loop and many sections exceed the IMBA ratings for a green track.

Next Level Mountain Bike were engaged to review the existing XC Loop corridor and prepare a plan for a more cohesive network and improve the rider experience.

We are seeking community feedback and comment on the following proposals:

  1. XC Upper IMBA blue line – Sidewinder to C4
  2. XC descent extension – Big dipper to railway abutment IMBA green flow
  3. New jumps line
