Single Hill Bushland Reserve Activity Plan 2020-2030

The second stage of this consultation has now concluded. Feedback on the draft plan is now being reviewed before a final plan is presented to a future council meeting for endorsement.

Project Overview

We are developing a Single Hill Bushland Reserve Activity Plan 2020-2030, which seeks to build a shared responsibility among the community and landowners to support the management of priority cultural, social and natural values.

Background

The areas of interest include:

  • Single Hill Bushland Reserve (approximately 57 hectares) located at 15 Eleanor Court. The reserve was recently handed to council as part of stage 4 of the Single Hill Development Plan.
  • Track corridors on the western side to Cahill Place, and northern side linking via Acton Creek riparian area of Seven Mile Beach Road.
  • Nowra Bushland Reserve (approximately 16 hectares), and track corridors linking the Nowra Road and Kirra Road.

A map is included in the document library.

The broad objectives of the reserve activity planning process are to:

  • Ensure the reserve is sustainably managed to preserve and enhance its natural, cultural and social values.
  • Identify priority management activities to be undertaken with the reserve by council and/or volunteer groups as resources become available.
  • Encourage community input and feedback by raising awareness of the reserve’s values and encourage participation in activities to minimise threats to these values.

Have Your Say

In the first engagement period for this project, we sought community feedback to help develop a draft plan. This key stakeholder consultation included a Walk and Talk session held in July 2020 and a short online survey. Community feedback received is tabled in the draft plan.

Recommendations incorporated in the draft plan include:

  • Construct a narrow track from Cahill Place junction to the summit.
  • Formalise mountain bikes tracks within the Nowra Hill area.
  • Construct a walking track from Seven Mile Beach carpark to the summit with links to the coastal track.
  • Fence off the trial regeneration area within the blue gum woodland on top of the hill.
  • Prune large shrubs at launching sites to allow for safe paragliding.
  • Undertake revegetation in degraded woodland and open areas.
  • Control serrated tussock and horehound weeds in the reserve.
  • Develop a Single Hill Bushland Fire Hazard Management Plan.
  • Install signage at the entrances for ‘dogs on lead’ and the picking up of dog poo.

We are now reviewing community feedback on the draft plan.

The final plan will then be presented to council for endorsement.
