Little Howrah Beach Master Plan Consultation

Clarence City Council is preparing a draft master plan for Little Howrah Beach.

The master plan will set out a vision for the Little Howrah Beach area and will aim to transform Little Howrah Beach from its current state with segregated pieces of open space with poor accessibility, ageing facilities and limited connections into a vibrant beachfront precinct that supports a variety of activities, with recreation facilities, activated community spaces and accessible links. Ultimately, the master plan will further establish this much-loved area as an integral part of Clarence's recreation network, creating new benefits and opportunities for the community to enjoy.

Council recognises the enormous value placed on Little Howrah Beach by both the local Howrah and Tranmere communities, people from across Greater Hobart and various special interest groups, such as kayakers and swimmers. Before we put pen-to paper on a draft master plan, we want to hear directly from the people who use Little Howrah Beach to fully understand the issues, opportunities and ideas that will shape the vision in the master plan.

Our initial community consultation closed on 8 March 2023 and we received 258 survey responses as well as many individual conversations, the summary report of the survey results can be found here. This strong community response and the ideas we received will guide our initial designs. Our project team is currently reviewing the feedback and will soon start preparing preliminary concept designs for further discussion with the community. We will provide further information and dates for the next round of consultation activities very soon.

This project has been slightly delayed and the draft master plan is still being worked on to be ready for community consultation. We are expecting the next consultation to be early in 2024 and we hope you like all the ideas that are being proposed. The aim is to retain all the elements of the area that are loved and improve elements that have been identified as less liked.

Keep checking back on this page for project updates and the further opportunities to have your say. If you have any questions or comments, you are welcome to contact Bryn Hannan, Council's Project Lead.
