Eastern Shore Business and Community Organisations - Support and Linkages

The consultation has now closed for evaluation and review.

Project overview

Clarence City Council is examining the feasibility of an independent organisation to support businesses and community organisations within Clarence.

Council recognises the critical role of community organisations that enable people to pursue their recreational interests, and also those that provide services and supports to people, as a key component of our social fabric and Clarence’s liveability.

Just as the success of private enterprise is important, so is the success of community organisations. By creating linkages between the two, we can create new opportunities and break down barriers between the public, private and community sectors.

Our work with community organisations identifies that they face very similar “business challenges” to those of the private sector, including:

  • recruiting and retaining clients/members
  • financial viability
  • skills to successfully operate within the current and emerging environment
  • understanding and complying with legislation and regulation
  • organisational capability and productivity, and
  • ensuring it can efficiently link with other organisations and services to manage risks and create new opportunities.

From a community prosperity, wellbeing and liveability perspective, it seems logical that any new organisation can support the success of both private and community sector business, to break down silos, make connections and support activity that makes Clarence a better place.

We are conducting research to gain some insights into the challenges you face in successfully running your organisation, and what services you would like to see in an independent support organisation.

The survey will take around five minutes to complete (or longer if you have a lot you want to say!) and you can remain anonymous if you wish.

Following this survey, we will hold focus groups which you are invited to be a part of. The results of the survey and focus group will be used to develop a business plan for the new organisation.

By completing this survey you are not committing to anything at this stage. We just need to find out how much interest there is and understand what services would be valuable to local community organisations.
