Update - 24 October 2023

The new local park and playground at 29 Blossom Crescent open and ready for play!

Name our Park!

Council sought community votes on name options for the park. The name options were from ideas provided by the community during the public consultation on the design of the park in 2019. We received 90 votes on the names and the overwhelming favourite was Blossom Park! So the new name as voted by the community is Blossom Park and a new sign will be coming soon.

Full survey results now available here or in the document folder.

Launch party

To celebrate the opening of the park launch party was held on Saturday, 16 September, with free coffee, ice cream, music and activities for everyone to enjoy. A favourite on the day was the tug-of-war enjoyed by many.

Project Background

This park was identified as a priority in the Cambridge Master Plan in 2016 and community consultation was undertaken in 2019. Community ideas and suggestions for the design, aesthetics and facilities of the park were gathered and included in the final park Master Plan.

Given the size and location of the park, it has been categorised as a ‘local community park’ in accordance with our Open Space Strategy Principles. A ‘local community park’ is intended to primarily service residents from the surrounding suburb who will likely arrive by foot.

Following detail design documentation, the Master Plan has been updated to reflect the final park design for construction. See the Document Library to review the Plan.

Original Design Intent

The park and playground is designed to welcome visitors of all ages and abilities. The main entry axis of the park is level with all key play and picnic facilities located adjacent the main path. A loop footpath provides a track for bike and scooter riding and follows the gentle slope of the site.

The custom play structure provides high and ‘risky’ play for older kids such as a rope climb and tunnel slide whilst the lower section is full of play favourites such as a small slide, play panels and tunnels for younger kids. Swings, rock scramble walls, and in-ground trampoline and a 360° basket swing provide plenty of play opportunities for everyone.

A picnic shelter is provided with table settings, bottle refill station and rubbish bins for picnics and gatherings. The park is fenced along Blossom Crescent for safety and to prevent dog access. Trees will provide shade over time and boundary plantings of native species will soften the park edges and provide opportunities for sensory and nature play.
